Loblolly Mitts

Completed January 31. Manos. Unknown color. Pattern from 2013 calendar.

I enjoyed making these. The cables made it mildly challenging. They were quick. Just 4 ends to sew in. And they fit well.

I would make these again but with a different cable. I prefer a twisted cable to a branching cable. And I am not sure I got the cables right all the way through.

5 hour baby sweaters

2 5 hour baby sweaters. Sewn up on Monday January 27.

I love this pattern. Easy. Quick. Pretty.

This one is for Nicola's Harrison. It is Willow Yarn's Daily in Sea Glass. I liked the bounce of this yarn. I made the whole sweater with about half of the 218 yard ball.

This one is heading to New Zealand. It is knit picks Chroma in butter mint.

Leaf Headband for NannyJo

This was a fun new thing for me to learn. I needed to do a provisional cast on to make the first leaf. Fun to learn something new. Fun to make the leaves. I'm trying to figure out other places for leaves to appear.

I also had to block this which is something I don't do often.

Basket

So this was quick and easy. Sewn up around the 25th of January.

I like the style. I like that it was easy. I do not like that it is floppy.

This was 15 stitches of seed stitch knitted until it was square. Then I cast on 15 more and continued in seed stitch. And then cast on 15 more on the other side and continued in seed stitch. When those were as wide as they were tall I cast off until I had just the middle 15. When it was square I bound off. And then folded it up and sewed it.

I have more of this bulky yarn but until I figure out the floppy problem I won't make more. This I currently holding diapers and wipes in my bedroom. And it works very well and looks pretty. The color is Rusted and the yarn is Burrow.

Made for the Dizzy Izzy. Adapted to add picot edging for someone with a head bigger than the pattern for a 2 year old in the vintage knits pattern book.

Finished around January 24.

Mittens

When I actually gave these to Sue we called the time Mathematical Intervention Teaching Time Encompassing Numerical Systems.

These were pop up mitts. The yarn was the Migration color way originally selected for Isobel's baby blanket before I knew she was a girl. Baby Felix also had a 5 hour sweater in this yarn.

The mittens were completed at 1:20 pm on Thursday January 16.

I liked the pop up. I did not like 2 dozen ends to see in. I would make these again but without the fingerless glove inside. I would just do a fingerless mitten. I did like that the thumb was also a pop up.

Möbius

This became a möbius ear warmer for tes. To match her cowl made from the same yarn.

I love making möbius things. This was the first one I made in seed stitch. I like it. A lot. I made this during Frankenstein at the Shakespeare Theater on January 6 and sewed in the ends not long after.

Sadly one sock was dried in the dryer on January 30th and is now a sock for Isobel.

2014 -- The Year of Knitting

This is going to be a big knitting year for me. I have started the year with major start-itis but I am also knocking some things out and getting things done. And I am very excited about doing the Knitting Olympics this year!
